The currency of Armenia is the Armenian Dram, with one Dram equalling 100 Luma. Notes come in denominations of AMD50,000, 20,000, 10,000, 5000, 1000, 500, 200, 100, 50, 25 and 10, with coins coming in denominations of AMD500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 1, and 50 and 20 Luma. It is recommended that an amount of small change is kept available for smaller shops, as they may not be able to break larger denominations. Currency can be exchanged at a number of locations – airports, banks, most hotels and some shops offer changing facilities, with US Dollars being the most widely recognised foreign currency. Traveller’s cheques are accepted in a few places, though to avoid additional charges they should be made out in US Dollars.
